On 4 April 2026, the Ocean Sustainability Club (OSC) held its first Club Day of the year at the clubhouse of the Bangladesh Marine Academy, marking an energetic start to OSC’s 2026 journey. The session brought together newly joined members from the 60th and 61st Batches, along with senior club representatives, to set priorities and plan sustainability initiatives for the year ahead.
A key outcome of the meeting was the formation of the new club committee for 2026, which will guide OSC’s activities and engagement programs throughout the year. The meeting also included an interactive group discussion focusing on preparations for Earth Day (22 April 2026)—one of the club’s major upcoming events dedicated to environmental awareness and action.
As part of the Earth Day observance, OSC announced plans to launch two important initiatives: Green Campus and Clean Compound. These programs aim to involve all stakeholders living within the Academy complex—including officers, staff members, teachers, and their families—in a collective effort to promote environmental responsibility across the campus community.
Under the Green Campus initiative, the club plans to formally introduce the use of glass bottles in key locations such as the Officers’ Conference Room and the Officers’ Club. This step symbolizes the Academy’s commitment to reducing single-use plastic bottles and raising awareness among staff, officers, cadets, and visitors about the importance of minimizing plastic pollution. The initiative reflects OSC’s broader goal of promoting sustainable everyday practices within the campus environment.
Complementing this effort, the Clean Compound campaign will organize a campus-wide cleanup activity scheduled for the end of April. Participants will be divided into teams to collect plastic waste, paper materials, and other litter from different areas of the Academy compound. The collected waste will be gathered at a designated central location, while OSC members will serve as volunteers coordinating and supporting the cleanup activities.
To ensure effective implementation, the club also discussed organizing a stakeholder consultation meeting followed by a steering committee meeting to finalize planning, coordination, and participation arrangements.
This first Club Day of 2026 marked an important milestone for the Ocean Sustainability Club, setting a strong foundation for a year of collaborative action, environmental awareness, and community engagement. With initiatives like Green Campus and Clean Compound, OSC continues to inspire responsible habits and strengthen its commitment to building a cleaner, greener maritime academy community.
